Month-end billing shouldn't take a weekend

Board is predictable. Blanketing, supplements, and extra turnout are not. The barns that bill fast separate the two.

Month-end billing shouldn't take a weekend

The owners who question an invoice usually aren't trying to get out of paying. They just can't see where a number came from — and when you built that invoice by hand at 9pm on the 30th, sometimes you can't either.

Board is the easy part. It's the same every month, so it should generate itself: set the rate once per horse and stop re-typing it. The charges that actually cause friction are the variable ones — the extra blanket change in January, the supplement top-up, the day of extra turnout while an owner was traveling.

Those have to be captured when they happen, not reconstructed from memory two weeks later. When a staff member logs a blanket change from their phone in the aisle, it's already on the invoice before anyone sits down to send it. The owner opens an itemized statement in the portal, sees exactly what they're paying for, and pays it — often the same day.

We built billing in Apex around that gap between predictable and variable, because that's where barns quietly lose both hours and trust. Close it, and month-end stops being an event you brace for.
